Precautions for Pump Motors

Author:

If the water pump has even the slightest malfunction, it must never be allowed to operate. If the packing on the pump shaft becomes worn, it should be replenished promptly; otherwise, continued operation will result in air leakage.

1. If the water pump experiences even a minor malfunction, it must never be allowed to operate. When the packing on the pump shaft is worn out, it should be replenished promptly; otherwise, the pump will leak air. The direct consequence of this is increased motor energy consumption, which can ultimately damage the impeller.
2. If the pump experiences severe vibration during operation, it must be stopped immediately to identify the cause; otherwise, the pump may be damaged.
3. When the foot valve of a water pump leaks, some people try to fill the pump’s suction pipe with dry soil and then flush it with water until the leak is reached. This practice is highly inadvisable. Once dry soil is introduced into the suction pipe, it will be carried into the pump as the pump starts operating, potentially damaging the impeller and bearings and thereby shortening the pump’s service life. If the foot valve leaks, it must be repaired; if the leakage is severe, the valve should be replaced.
4. Be sure to perform proper maintenance after each use of the water pump. For example, after operation, drain all water from the pump; ideally, detach the suction and discharge hoses and rinse them thoroughly with clean water.
5. Remove the pump’s belt as well, rinse it thoroughly with water, and then allow it to dry in a well-lit area. Do not store the belt in a dark, damp location. The pump belt must never come into contact with oil or grease, and you should never apply any sticky substances to it.
6. Carefully inspect the impeller for cracks and ensure that it is securely fastened to the bearing; if any cracks or looseness are found, repair them promptly. Also, thoroughly clean any dirt or sediment from the pump impeller.
